After a long day at work or school you may be looking to relax and slip away from the stress of the day. A pair of the best headphones for ASMR may be exactly what you need to relax and get a good nights sleep. We are here to help by taking a look at some of our favorite headphones that will offer high quality, comfort and other important factors.

What is ASMR

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. ASMR is a tingling sensation that happens in your head, scalp, back or neck when you are exposed to gentle sounds like whispering or tapping. It’s hard to explain if you haven’t experienced it before but it can be really relaxing and soothing.

There is little scientific proof that backs up the existence of such experience. The most prevalent theory is that ASMR is a genetic trait that has been passed on from generation to generation and evolved with us over time. It has been said that most people can experience this sensation when they are in a warm environment with soft taps and whispered words. ASMR can be stimulated by a kind voice speaking in a soothing tone. It might sound very strange but some people claim to get a tingling sensation on their scalp and back which feels really relaxing and some say it is like meditation for them.

If you are here reading this article, you most likely are familiar with the experience. Since ASMR is a very auditory-focused activity, we will want some quality headphones to enhance the experience. We will be taking into consideration both the sound quality of the headphones and the comfort.

The Sennheiser make great ASMR headphones. The sound signature of these work perfectly for the audio tracks we sampled. In addition to the sound quality, they are built well and very comfortable to wear.

Note these were our top pick for an open-back headphone. An open-back headphone will typically have a more natural sound and better soundstage than closed-back. The downside is if you have a noisy environment you will also hear it. Learn more about Open-back vs Closed back headphones.

The other reason these were not our top pick is they were wired and we found the wireless Sony WH-1000XM4 to offer more comfort and convenience without much sacrifice of the sound quality.
